Save the Children International Somalia/Somaliland Country Office invites qualified, Somaliland-based individual consultants to submit bids for delivering a seven-day integrated training programme on survey sampling and applied survey data analysis using R, followed by three months of post-training mentorship.

The assignment aims to strengthen participants’ technical knowledge and practical skills in survey design, sampling methods, statistical analysis, and the application of R for survey data analysis. The selected consultant will prepare training materials, facilitate 56 hours of training, and provide ongoing mentorship through monthly clinics and reviews of participants’ work products.

Key Responsibilities / Programme Activities

The selected consultant will be responsible for:

• Preparing comprehensive training materials for the seven-day programme.
• Delivering 56 hours of training on survey sampling and applied survey data analysis using R.
• Teaching survey sampling design, sample size and statistical power, multistage and cluster sampling, survey weighting, and complex survey analysis.
• Facilitating practical learning activities using approved datasets provided by Save the Children International.
• Providing three months of post-training mentorship through monthly clinics.
• Reviewing participants’ work products and providing technical guidance and feedback.
• Explaining technical concepts clearly to professional audiences and participants with different levels of technical understanding.
• Complying with Save the Children’s security procedures, including completing the required online security training before the assignment begins.

The training venue in Somaliland will be confirmed by Save the Children International.

Eligibility Requirements

All the following minimum requirements are mandatory for the individual consultant:

• Hold a PhD in Statistics or Data Science, with an educational background in research methods and applied statistics.
• Have at least five years of university teaching experience in Somaliland.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of survey design, including sampling design, sample size and power, multistage and cluster designs, survey weighting, and complex survey analysis.
• Have developed R packages published on CRAN or in a public code repository such as GitHub.
• Have developed R Shiny applications.
• Have published at least 100 papers in journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science.
• Have supervised more than 20 postgraduate students at Master’s and PhD levels.
• Have previous experience conducting or facilitating similar training in survey sampling, survey data analysis, and/or R programming.
• Possess excellent communication skills in both Somali and English, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-specialist audiences.

Benefits and Support

This is a paid consultancy assignment, rather than a scholarship or employment-based training opportunity.
